The Alberta Lymphedema Association is seeking an individual with a strong foundation in Governance to act as a Board Member/Director on ALA’s Board of Directors.

As a Board, we strive to collectively have the following critical skills:
• Fund Development
• Governance
• Marketing / Communications (including media relations and advertising)
• Organizational Development (including strategic planning)
• Program/Project Development and Management
• Past Board Experience
• Past Committee Experience

Qualifications for this position:
• Experience in volunteer and/or non-profit sector
• Specific experience with Board governance, Board policy development and enactment
• Commitment to create positive change in the community
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• While knowledge of healthcare, specifically lymphedema, is an asset, it is not a requirement for this position

Responsibilities:
• Attend 5 to 6 meetings per year (Quarterly Board Meetings, Annual General Meeting, Annual Strategic Planning Meeting, Special Meetings as required)
• Participate in decision-making related to strategic planning, governance, and other campaigns/programs
• Assist in the planning of special events, such as Lymphedema Nights and conferences
• Be readily accessible by email (48-hour turnaround) in order to facilitate all of the above

Please Note: We are looking for someone who is driven to create positive change in the community and who is interested in working, learning, and collaborating with other Board Members. We recently had a Board Member complete her final term with the Board after many wonderful years, so we are now seeking your governance experience to help us continue to create positive change.

Term: Maximum of 3 years.

The focus of the Treasurer position of the Alberta Lymphedema Association (“ALA”) is to document and provide direction with regard to the financial management of the Association.

Accountability: President and the Board of Directors

Responsibilities:
In addition to Director responsibilities, the Treasurer is responsible for:

  1. Receiving all monies paid or donated to the Association.
  2. Ensuring deposit of all monies in whatever bank, trust company, credit union or treasury branch the Board may order.
  3. Issuing all required receipts in the form prescribed by the Board.
  4. Properly accounting for the funds of the Association and keeping such records as may be directed by the Board.
  5. Presenting a written financial report to all meetings of the Board.
  6. Presenting the audited financial statement of the Association at the Annual General Meeting.
  7. Acting as a signing officer with another officer for cheques and other documents.

Requirements:

  • Financial management knowledge
  • Knowledge of and accountability compliance of legislation and policies related to charitable organizations
  • Detail oriented
  • Good communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills

Term: Maximum of 3 years.
